Experience and Education

In addition to a Bachelors and Masters of Science in Aerospace Engineering I attained an Associate of Science degree in Midwifery from the National College of Midwifery a MEAC accredited school. This degree was completed in February 2010 when I pass the exam given by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) and was awarded the title of Certified Professional Midwife (CPM).  I am a New Mexico and Texas Licensed Midwife (LM) and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (2010). Additionally, I am an ALSO Provider having completed the Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics training given by the American Academy of Family Practitioners in September 2010 and 2015. I am currently finishing my PhD in Midwifery Research and have written two books, Experienced Doula: Advanced Skills for Hospital Doulas, and Many Paths, One Journey: Becoming a Certified Professional Midwife.

I have served and learned from many volunteer board positions including; New Mexico Midwives Association (past co-chair), New Mexico State Licensed Midwifery Board (past LM member), National College of Midwifery (past board member), Midwifery Education and Accreditation Council (current President).

I have had the privilege of being educated as a Circle of Security and a Technology of Participation Facilitator.

Personal Reflections

I have been married to Moriba Jah since 2002 and am the mother of teens Denali (who was born in a hospital with a doula), and Inara (who was born at home with midwives) and toddler Satyana. I breastfed my children a total of 75 months. Each of my births were earth shattering, life transforming, and completely empowering!  My greatest desire is for all people to recognize their own inner strength.
